Here’s the thing about moving: it always sounds like a fresh start and a beautiful adventure… until you’re knee-deep in cardboard chaos, your children are emotionally unraveling over a broken Happy Meal toy, and you’re attempting to tape boxes with one functioning hand and a roll of duct tape that’s fighting for its life.
But yes, we’re moving. And somehow, it’s all still worth it.
A New Chapter… with a Lot More Dirt
Our little crew is headed to a new home with more space, more trees, and more room for dreams. One glorious acre with a barn, a sunroom that makes me feel like I’m in a Nancy Meyers movie, and space for a shop so Josh can finally build all the things I keep pinning on Pinterest.
This move is our chance to grow into the homeschool-homestead hybrid we’ve been chasing. I’m talking garden beds. Chicken coops. Maybe even a goat named Daisy. (Too soon? We’ll work on him.)
Packing… But Make It a Circus 🎪
Packing this house has been a full-blown production. Imagine trying to organize, lift, label, and load with only one working hand. Add in two little boys who aren’t quite sure what moving means, other than “Mom keeps putting our stuff in boxes and looks like she might cry.”
Ryder asked if we could just take our house with us. Skylar is clinging to random objects like they’re family heirlooms. And don’t even get me started on trying to keep things clean while also purging the junk we’ve somehow hoarded since 2018. (No, we don’t need the box of 47 mismatched baby socks. No, I don’t know where your favorite toy from last year went. Probably the Bermuda Triangle.)
There’s a Storage Unit… Somewhere
We’ve started loading a storage unit, but every trip feels like a test of patience, back muscles, and my ability to adult while heavily caffeinated. I’m also keeping a mental tally of how many boxes I’ve packed vs. how many the boys have “unpacked for fun.”
But Honestly? I’m Still Giddy.
Through all the mess, I can’t stop smiling. This is the start of something big for our family. A place where our boys can grow wild and curious. Where we can plant roots—literally and figuratively. Where I can raise chickens and maybe wrangle a few goats if I play my cards right. (Josh, if you’re reading this… surprise?)
It’s not easy. It’s not neat. But it’s ours.
So here we go—onward to a home with space to breathe, dirt to dig, and the kind of life we’ve been dreaming about.
Send Coffee, Boxes, and Possibly a Goat Halter
Thanks for sticking with us through this whirlwind. I’ll keep sharing every messy, magical step of this move—from the packing fails to the first sprout in our new garden.
